Amr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade buying and selling in the mosque, announcing a lost item in it, and reciting poetry in it. Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

The prohibition of buying and selling inside the mosque. Since Allah has attributed the mosques to Himself, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attributed them to his Lord, they have a sanctity and rulings, and are owed respect and reverence. Mosques are the marketplaces of the Hereafter, not the marketplaces of this world; part of their etiquette is to keep them free of everything that has no connection to the Hereafter. There is no harm in speaking in mosques for the benefit of the Muslims concerning their religious and social affairs and whatever is of general benefit to the Muslims.
