عَنْ أَبي هُريْرةَ رَضِيَ اللّه عَنْهُ أنّ رسول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: نهى عنِ الخَصْرِ في الصَّلاةِ. متفقٌ عليهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade al-khasr (placing the hand on the waist) during prayer. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
الخصر: المراد هو وضع اليد على الخاصرة حالَ صَلاتِهِ؛ لِمَا في هذِه الهيئةِ مِن أمورٍ تُنافي الخشوعَ في الصَّلاةِ.
"Al-khasr": what is meant is placing the hand on the flank (the waist) while praying, because in this posture are things contrary to humility (khushu') in prayer.

It is disliked to place the hand on the waist during prayer, because it indicates arrogance; the dislike is removed if one has an excuse, such as someone who places his hand there because of a pain in his side.
