The dislike of handling a sword while unsheathed, because the one taking it may err in taking it and cut his hand or some part of his body, thereby harming himself and causing damage. The knife carries the same meaning as the sword, so one should not toss it with its edge toward the other person. Part of good manners in handing it over is to hold the sharpened blade in one's own hand from the side of its back and to turn the handle toward one's brother so that he may take hold of it [by the handle].
