Al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal one morning. He lowered his voice about him and raised it, until we thought he was among the cluster of palm trees. When we went back to him, he recognized that concern in us, so he said: "What is the matter with you?" We said: O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned the Dajjal this morning, lowering and raising your voice about him, until we thought he was among the cluster of palm trees. He said: "Something other than the Dajjal is what I fear more for you. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf; but if he appears while I am not among you, then each man must contend for himself, and Allah is my deputy over every Muslim. He is a young man with tightly curled hair, one eye protruding; I liken him to Abd al-Uzza ibn Qatan. Whoever among you reaches him, let him recite over him the opening verses of Surah al-Kahf. He will emerge on a road between Syria (al-Sham) and Iraq, and he will wreak havoc to the right and to the left. O servants of Allah, hold firm." We said: O Messenger of Allah, how long will he remain on the earth? He said: "Forty days: a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week, and the rest of his days like your days." We said: O Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will one day's prayers suffice us? He said: "No, calculate its measure accordingly." We said: O Messenger of Allah, how swift is he through the earth? He said: "Like a rain-cloud driven by the wind. He comes upon a people and calls them, and they believe in him and respond to him. Then he commands the sky and it rains, and the earth and it brings forth vegetation; and their grazing herds return to them in the evening with their humps taller, their udders fuller, and their flanks more distended than ever. Then he comes to another people and calls them, but they reject his words, so he turns away from them, and they are stricken with drought, with nothing left of their wealth. He passes by the ruin and says to it: 'Bring forth your treasures,' and its treasures follow him like swarms of bees. Then he calls a man brimming with youth and strikes him with the sword, cutting him into two pieces cast as far apart as the distance between an archer and his target. Then he calls him, and he comes forward, his face beaming with laughter. While he is like that, Allah the Exalted sends down the Messiah, son of Mary (peace and blessings be upon him). He descends at the white minaret east of Damascus, clad in two dyed garments, placing his hands upon the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, water drips; and when he raises it, pearl-like drops roll down from it. No disbeliever who catches the scent of his breath can live but that he dies, and his breath reaches as far as his sight reaches. He pursues him until he catches up with him at the gate of Ludd and kills him. Then Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) comes to a people whom Allah has protected from him, and he wipes their faces and tells them of their ranks in Paradise. While he is like that, Allah the Exalted reveals to Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him): 'I have brought forth servants of Mine whom none has the power to fight; so take My servants for refuge to al-Tur.' Then Allah sends Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj), and they come swarming down from every height. The first of them passes by the Lake of Tiberias and drinks what is in it, and the last of them passes and says: 'There was once water here.' Allah's Prophet Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions are besieged, until the head of an ox would be dearer to one of them than a hundred dinars is to one of you today. So Allah's Prophet Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) beseech Allah the Exalted, and Allah sends upon them (Gog and Magog) a worm in their necks, and they die like the death of a single soul. Then Allah's Prophet Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) descend to the earth, and they do not find on the earth a space of a hand-span but that it is filled with their stench and rot. So Allah's Prophet Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) beseech Allah the Exalted, and Allah sends birds with necks like those of Bactrian camels, which carry them and cast them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) sends down a rain that no house of clay or hide can keep out, and it washes the earth until it leaves it like a smooth mirror. Then it is said to the earth: 'Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing.' On that day a group will eat from a single pomegranate and take shade under its rind, and the milk will be so blessed that a single milch-camel will suffice a large group of people, a single milch-cow will suffice a tribe, and a single milch-ewe will suffice a clan. While they are like that, Allah the Exalted sends a pleasant wind that takes them beneath their armpits and seizes the soul of every believer and every Muslim, and there remain the worst of people, coupling openly like donkeys; and upon them the Hour will come." Reported by Muslim.

The False Messiah (al-Masih al-Dajjal) is among the tribulations by which Allah tests His servants; Allah establishes the truth and nullifies falsehood, then afterward exposes him and lays bare his impotence. The Dajjal is a human being from the descendants of Adam who will appear at the end of time as one of the signs of the Hour. He will lie profusely—hence he is called al-Dajjal for the abundance of his lying. He will claim to be a prophet, then claim to be the Lord of the worlds, and he will be supported by extraordinary feats with which Allah tests people. It is reported that the treasures of the villages follow him like swarms of bees, that he commands the sky and it rains and the earth and it brings forth vegetation for whoever follows him, while whoever refuses, their land is stricken with drought. These are things by which Allah tests His servants at the end of time; Allah keeps the people of faith firm, and they increase in insight when they encounter him and recognize this.
