Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Dajjal will come forth, and a man from among the believers will set out toward him. The Dajjal's sentries will meet him and say to him: 'Where are you heading?' He will say: 'I am heading toward this one who has come forth.' They will say to him: 'Do you not believe in our lord?' He will say: 'There is nothing hidden about our Lord.' They will say: 'Kill him.' But some of them will say to others: 'Has not your lord forbidden you to kill anyone without his leave?' So they will take him to the Dajjal. When the believer sees him, he will say: 'O people, this is the Dajjal about whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke.' The Dajjal will then give orders concerning him, and he will be stretched out on his belly. He will say: 'Seize him and split his head.' So his back and belly will be beaten severely. He will say: 'Do you not believe in me?' He will say: 'You are the false messiah.' Then the order will be given concerning him, and he will be sawn in half with a saw, from the parting of his head until it passes between his legs. Then the Dajjal will walk between the two pieces. Then he will say to him: 'Stand up,' and he will stand upright. Then he will say to him: 'Do you believe in me?' He will say: 'It has only increased my insight concerning you.' Then he will say: 'O people, he will not do this to anyone among the people after me.' The Dajjal will then take hold of him to slaughter him, but Allah will make the space between his neck and his collarbone into copper, so he will find no way against him. So he will take him by his hands and feet and hurl him. The people will think that he has hurled him into the Fire, but he has really been cast into Paradise." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "This man will be the greatest of people in martyrdom in the sight of the Lord of the Worlds." Reported by Muslim. Al-Bukhari reported part of it with its meaning.

The Dajjal is a grave and great trial for people, as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained and warned, since Allah has enabled him to produce certain extraordinary feats and placed in his hand the keys to much good and provision. At the end of time there will be men of firm faith and steadfast certainty who protect the heartland of Islam and proclaim the truth in the face of the greatest Dajjal. From the strength of this man's faith, the Companions thought he was Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), because of the strength of his faith and his firmness upon the truth; and when Umar died, they said: we knew he was someone other than him. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that with the Dajjal is a fire and a garden, but his fire is (in reality) a garden and his garden is (in reality) a fire.
