عَنْ مِرْداسٍ الأسْلَمِيِّ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ قالَ قالَ النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يَذْهَبُ الصَّالحُونَ الأوَّلُ فالأولُ، وتَبْقَى حُثَالَةٌ كحُثَالَةِ الشعِيرِ أوِ التَّمْرِ، لا يُبالِيهمُ اللّه بالَةً». رواه البخاري.
Mirdas al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The righteous will depart, one after another, and there will remain a worthless remnant like the chaff of barley or dates, of whom Allah will take no notice." Reported by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
حثالة: الحثالة البقية الرديئة من كل شيء. لا يباليهم اللّه بالة: لا يرفع لهم وزنًا ولا يقيم لهم قدرًا.
"Worthless remnant": al-huthalah is the worthless residue of anything. "Allah will take no notice of them": He gives them no weight and accords them no worth.

أنّ موت الصالحين من أشراط الساعة. الندب إلى الاقتداء بأهل الخير والتحذير من مخالفتهم حتى لا يصير ممّن لا يعبأ اللّه به. انقراض أهل الخير آخر الزمان حتى لا يبقى إلّا أهل الجهل وعليهم تقوم الساعة.
That the death of the righteous is among the portents of the Hour. The exhortation to follow the example of the people of goodness and the warning against opposing them, so that one does not become of those to whom Allah gives no regard. The extinction of the people of goodness at the end of time, until none remain but the people of ignorance, and upon them the Hour will be established.
