On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never prayed a prayer after the revelation of {When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest} without saying in it: "Glory be to You, our Lord, and with Your praise. O Allah, forgive me." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim). In another narration in the two Sahihs from her: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to frequently say in his bowing and prostration: "Glory be to You, O Allah our Lord, and with Your praise. O Allah, forgive me" — implementing the Quran. In a narration by Muslim: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to frequently say before his death: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You." 'A'ishah said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what are these new words I see you saying?" He said: "A sign has been appointed for me in my Ummah; when I see it, I say them: {When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest} — to the end of the surah." In another narration by Muslim: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to frequently say: "Glory be to Allah and with His praise. I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him." She said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, I see you frequently saying: 'Glory be to Allah and with His praise, I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him.'" He said: "My Lord informed me that I would see a sign in my Ummah, and when I see it, I should increase in saying: 'Glory be to Allah and with His praise, I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him.' And I have seen it: {When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest} — the conquest of Makkah — {and you see the people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes, then exalt Him with praise of your Lord and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.}"
"Glory be to You, O Allah" (subhanaka Allahumma): I declare You free from every imperfection that does not befit You, O Allah. "And with Your praise": By Your guidance, grace, and favor upon me I glorify You — not by my own power or strength. "Implementing the Quran" (yata'awwal al-Quran): Acting upon what he was commanded to do in the Quran in the saying of Allah the Most High: {Then exalt Him with praise of your Lord and ask His forgiveness}.

The promptness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in carrying out what Allah the Most High commanded him to do, fulfilling the right of servitude and honoring the majesty of Lordship — even though his past and future sins had been forgiven. The recommendation of increasing in seeking forgiveness and supplication, following the example of the Messenger (peace be upon him).
