عن أنسٍ رضي اللّه عنه قال: "إنَّ اللّه عزَّ وجلَّ تَابعَ الوَحْيَ على رسول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قَبْلَ وَفَاتِهِ، حتَّى تُوُفِّيَ أكْثَرَ مَا كَانَ الْوَحْي"ُ. متفقٌ عليه.
On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "Indeed, Allah the Almighty sent down revelation to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in increasing frequency before his death, until he passed away during a period when revelation was at its most abundant." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

إِنَّ اللّه تَابَعَ عَلَى رَسُوله الْوَحْي قَبْل وَفَاته: أَيْ أَكْثَرَ إِنْزَاله قُرْب وَفَاته صَلَّى اللّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم، وذلك لتكتمل الشريعة. حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ أَكْثَر مَا كَانَ الْوَحْيُ: أي توفي النّبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم وقت نزول الوحي بكثرة.
"Allah sent down revelation to His Messenger in increasing frequency before his death": Meaning He increased its descent near the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so that the Shari'ah would be completed. "He passed away during a period when revelation was at its most abundant": The Prophet (peace be upon him) passed away at a time when revelation was being sent down abundantly.

ليس المراد بالوحي هنا: خصوص القرآن، بل المراد به كل ما أوحى اللّه به إلى نبيّه من أمر الدين، ولو كان قد أخبرنا بذلك في سنّته. السِّرّ فِي تتابع الوحي أَنَّ الْوُفُود بَعْد فَتْح مَكَّة كَثُرُوا وَكَثُرَ سُؤَالهمْ عَنْ الْأَحْكَام فَكَثُرَ النُّزُول بِسَبَبِ ذَلِكَ. كثرة نزول الوحي في آخر حياته صلّى اللّه عليه وسلم علامة دنو الأجل والقرب من اللّه تعالى. اكتمل نزول الوحي قبل وفاته صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم.
What is meant by revelation here is not exclusively the Quran; rather, it refers to everything that Allah revealed to His Prophet concerning the affairs of the religion, even if he conveyed it to us through his Sunnah. The reason for the increase of revelation was that the delegations after the conquest of Makkah became numerous and their questions about rulings multiplied, leading to more revelations in response. The increase of revelation in the latter part of his life (peace be upon him) is a sign of the approach of death and nearness to Allah the Most High. The completion of revelation occurred before his death (peace be upon him).
