عن جابر رضي اللّه عنه قال: قال رسول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يُبْعثُ كُلُّ عبْدٍ على ما مَاتَ علَيْهِ» رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Every servant will be resurrected upon the state in which he died." Narrated by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ: أي كل مُكلف، حرًا كان أو عبدًا، رجلًا أو امرأَةً. على ما مات عليه: أي على الحالة التي مات عليها من خير وشر.
"Every servant will be resurrected" (yub'ath kullu 'abd): Every accountable person — whether free or enslaved, male or female. "Upon the state in which he died": Upon the condition he was in at the time of death, whether good or evil.

العبرة بخواتيم الأعمال، فمن حسن عمله في آخر حياته كان له بشارة خير، ومن ساء عمله في آخر عمره كان غير ذلك. أنّ ما يفعله العبد من خير وشرّ في هذه الدار له نتائج تظهر في دار البقاء لأنّها محل الجزاء وجزاء كل إنسان بحسب عمله. الازدياد من الطاعات في سائر الأوقات، لاحتمال قرب الموت، وعلى الخصوص في حالة الكبر والمرض. ملازمة سنّة النبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم في عباداته وأخلاقه وسائر أحواله. حثّ الإنسان على حسن العمل، ليكون أنيسه يوم المحشر.
What matters is the conclusion of one's deeds. Whoever ends his life with good deeds has glad tidings, and whoever ends his life with evil deeds faces the opposite. What a servant does of good and evil in this abode has consequences that appear in the abode of eternity, for it is the place of recompense, and every person is requited according to his deeds. One should increase in acts of obedience at all times, given the possibility that death may be near — especially during old age and illness. Adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his acts of worship, his character, and all his affairs. Encouragement to do good deeds so that they become one's companion on the Day of Gathering.
