عن أبي هريرة رضي اللّه عنه عن رسول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «الصَّلَوَاتُ الْخَمْسُ، والْجُمُعَةُ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ، ورمضانُ إِلَى رمضانَ مُكفِّرَاتٌ لِمَا بَينَهُنَّ إِذَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الْكَبائِرُ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The five daily prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan are expiations for the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided." Narrated by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
الجمعة: أي صلاة الجمعة. رمضان: أي صوم رمضان. مُكفِّرات: أي تمحوها وتسترها. اجتُنِبَتِ الْكَبَائر: أي ابتعد الإنسان عنها فلم يعملها. الكبائر: هي الذنوب العظيمة التي جاء فيها الوعيد بالنار أو بعذاب القبر أو بغضب اللّه، كالزنى وشرب الخمر وشهادة الزور.
"Friday" refers to the Friday prayer. "Ramadan" refers to the fast of Ramadan. "Expiations" (mukaffirat) means they wipe away and cover those sins. "Major sins are avoided" means a person stays away from them and does not commit them. "Major sins" (al-kaba'ir) are the grave sins for which warnings of Hellfire, punishment of the grave, or the wrath of Allah have been mentioned — such as fornication, drinking alcohol, and bearing false witness.

دليل فضل الصلوات وما فيها من الخير العظيم، وأنّها من أسباب تكفير الذنوب وحَطِّ الخطايا. أن القيام بهذه الواجبات على خير وجه يكون سببًا لأنّ يغفر اللّه عزّ وجلّ بفضله ورحمته ما وقع بينها من الذنوب الصغيرة. لا بد في تكفير الذنوب الكبيرة من التوبة الصادقة. من فضل اللّه تعالى على عباده ورحمته أن جعل لهم مواسم خير للتزوُّد من الطاعات ومحو الخطايا.
Evidence of the merit of the prayers and the great good they contain, and that they are among the causes of expiation of sins and the removal of faults. Performing these obligations in the best manner is a cause for Allah, the Almighty, by His grace and mercy, to forgive the minor sins that occur between them. The expiation of major sins requires sincere repentance. It is from the bounty of Allah, the Most High, upon His servants and His mercy that He has made for them seasons of goodness in which to increase their acts of obedience and have their sins erased.
