Riyad Al Salihin

On the authority of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected.' Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim). In a narration of Muslim: 'Whoever performs a deed that is not in accordance with our matter, it is rejected.'

The rejection of every innovation not brought by the religion, and every act of worship that is not supported by a legal proof. Whoever introduces an innovation into the religion that does not conform to the Sacred Law bears its sin, his deed is rejected, and he deserves the threatened punishment. The Islamic religion is a complete religion with no deficiency. Matters that people do not worship through are not included in the concept of reprehensible innovation.
