عن أَنسٍ رضي اللّه عنه أَنْ فَتًى مِنْ أَسْلَمَ قال: يا رسُولَ اللّه إِنِّي أُرِيد الْغَزْوَ ولَيْس مَعِي مَا أَتجهَّزُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ: «ائْتِ فُلانًا فإِنّه قَدْ كانَ تَجَهَّزَ فَمَرِضَ» فَأَتَاهُ فقال: إِنَّ رسولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يُقْرئُكَ السَّلامَ وَيَقُولُ: أَعْطِني الّذي تجَهَّزْتَ بِهِ، فقال: يا فُلانَةُ أَعْطِيهِ الذي تجَهَّزْتُ بِهِ، ولا تحْبِسِي مِنْهُ شَيْئًا، فواللّه لا تَحْبِسِينَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَيُبَارَكَ لَكِ فِيهِ. رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), that a young man from the tribe of Aslam said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I wish to go on a military expedition but I do not have the means to equip myself.' He said: 'Go to so-and-so, for he had prepared himself but then fell ill.' So he went to him and said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) conveys his greetings to you and says: Give me what you had equipped yourself with.' The man said to his wife: 'O so-and-so, give him what I had equipped myself with, and do not hold back anything from it. By Allah, if you hold back anything from it, you will not be blessed in it.' Narrated by Muslim.

فتى: شاب حديث السنّ. من أَسْلَمَ: قبيلة من قبائل العرب. الغزو: الجهاد في سبيل اللّه تعالى. ما أتجهز به: ما أحتاج إليه في سفري وجهادي. يقرئك: يتلو عليك ويبدؤك. لا تحبسي: لا تتركي عندك.
Young man (fatan): A youth of young age. From Aslam: A tribe among the Arab tribes. Military expedition (al-ghazw): Jihad in the cause of Allah the Most High. The means to equip myself (ma atajahazu bihi): What I need for my journey and my fighting. Conveys his greetings (yuqri'uka al-salam): Recites the greeting to you and initiates it. Do not hold back (la tahbisi): Do not keep anything with you.

فضل الدلالة على الخير والسعي في تحصيله والإعانة عليه. من نوى صرف شيء في جهة خير وتعذَّر عليه تحقيقه فالمستحب له أن يبذله في وجه آخر مشابه له. من بخل بالبذل في سبيل اللّه عزّ وجلّ وفي وجوه الخير ذهبت البركة من ماله. أنَّ من أراد عملًا صالحًا فحبسه عنه مرض، فإنّه ينبغي أن يدفع ما بذله لهذا العمل الصالح إلى من يقوم به حتَّى يُكتَب له الأجر كاملًا.
The virtue of guiding to good, striving to achieve it, and assisting in it. Whoever intends to spend something in a charitable cause and is unable to fulfill it, it is recommended for him to allocate it to another similar cause. Whoever is miserly in giving in the cause of Allah the Almighty and in charitable endeavors will lose the blessing from his wealth. Whoever intends a righteous deed but is prevented from it by illness should give what he had prepared for that deed to someone who can carry it out, so that the full reward may be written for him.
