Riyad Al Salihin

On the authority of the Mother of the Believers, Umm al-Hakam Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace be upon him) entered upon her in a state of alarm, saying: 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah! Woe to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn near! Today a breach has been made in the barrier of Ya'juj and Ma'juj like this' — and he made a circle with his thumb and the finger next to it. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall we be destroyed even though there are righteous people among us?' He said: 'Yes, when wickedness becomes widespread.' Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

In a state of alarm (fazi'an): Alarm is fright and fear. Woe (wayl): A word of torment, said in times of grief. Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog): Peoples who will appear at the end of time and spread corruption on earth; their appearance is among the major signs of the Hour. Barrier (radm): The dam built by Dhul-Qarnayn to contain Ya'juj and Ma'juj. Made a circle with his fingers (hallaqa bi-usbu'ayhi): He placed his index finger at the base of his thumb and pressed them together until only a small opening remained between them. Wickedness (al-khabath): The majority of scholars interpreted this as immorality and transgression. Some said it refers specifically to fornication, but the apparent meaning is sins in general.
