Abu Zayd Usamah ibn Zayd ibn Harithah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and cast into the Fire. His intestines will spill out, and he will go round them as a donkey goes round the millstone. The inhabitants of the Fire will gather around him and say: 'O so-and-so! What is the matter with you? Did you not used to enjoin good and forbid evil?' He will say: 'Yes, I used to enjoin good but did not practice it, and I used to forbid evil but committed it myself.'" Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Severe punishment awaits one whose actions contradict his words, especially one who commits sins while forbidding others from them, and who possesses knowledge that should lead to reverence for Allah and avoidance of disobedience. Among the matters of the unseen that the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us about are descriptions of the Fire and those being punished in it. Practicing good and abandoning evil are among the means that protect a person from entering the Fire.
