Riyad Al Salihin

On the authority of Abu Abdullah, Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was reclining on his cloak in the shade of the Ka'bah. We said: "Will you not seek victory for us? Will you not pray for us?" He said: "Among those who came before you, a man would be seized and a pit would be dug for him in the earth, then he would be placed in it. Then a saw would be brought and placed on his head and he would be split in two halves. He would be combed with iron combs that would strip away his flesh and bones, yet none of that would deter him from his religion. By Allah, Allah will surely bring this matter to completion, until a rider will travel from Sana'a to Hadramawt fearing none but Allah and the wolf for his sheep, but you are a people in haste." Narrated by al-Bukhari. In another narration: "While he was reclining on his cloak, and we had suffered great hardship from the polytheists."

The praise of patience in enduring persecution for the sake of religion. The fulfillment of what the Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold regarding the spread of Islam and the establishment of security and peace is among the proofs and signs of the truthfulness of prophethood. The patience of the Companions of the Prophet upon persecution with contented hearts and tranquil souls; their complaint was not out of frustration or resentment, but because they saw in peace the opportunity to devote themselves to worship and to attain the fullness of happiness. Following the example of the righteous who were tested in their religion and showed patience. Hostility against faith is ancient, and believers in every age must bear the harm and show patience. Islam is the religion of security and peace.
