Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The strong person is not the one who can wrestle others down. Rather, the strong person is the one who controls himself when he is angry." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Islam transformed the pre-Islamic (Jahiliyyah) concept of strength into a noble moral and social meaning. Struggling against one's own self and mastering it is harder than fighting an enemy. One should avoid anger, due to the physical, psychological, and social harms it causes.
