عَن ابْنِ مسْعُودٍ رضي اللّهُ عنه أنَّ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «إِنَّهَا سَتكُونُ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةٌ وَأُمُورٌ تُنْكِرونَها، قَالُوا: يا رسُولَ اللّهِ فَما تَأمرُنا؟ قالَ: «تُؤَدُّونَ الْحقَّ الَّذي عَلَيْكُمْ، وتَسْألونَ اللّهَ الذي لكُمْ» متفقٌ عليه. * الأَثَرَةُ: الانفرادُ بالشيْءِ عمَّنْ لَهُ فيهِ حقٌّ. * تؤدون: أي تعطون.
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There will be after me selfishness and matters that you will disapprove of." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you command us to do?" He said: "Fulfill the rights that are upon you and ask Allah for that which is due to you." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim). * Al-Atharah: monopolizing something at the expense of those who have a right to it. * Tu'addun: meaning you give and fulfill.

قوله صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم: إنّها ستكون بعدي أثَرة: هذا من الإخبار عن الغيب المستقبل، ويريد بها إخبارهم أنّه سيستولي على المسلمين ولاة يستأثرون بأموالهم يصرفونها كما يشاؤون، ويمنعون المسلمين حقَّهم فيها. الحثُّ على طاعة ولاة الأمور، وعدم الخروج عليهم. المؤمن يُؤدي ما عليه من الحقوق، ويسأل اللّه الذي له، ولا يفتح بابَ الفتنة؛ فإن عليه السمع والطاعة في المعروف. الصبر والرضا بالقضاء والقدر خيره وشره.
His saying (peace be upon him) 'There will be after me selfishness': This is an example of informing about future unseen events. He was telling them that rulers would come to power over the Muslims who would monopolize their wealth, spending it as they wished and denying Muslims their rightful share. The encouragement to obey those in authority and not to rebel against them. The believer fulfills the rights incumbent upon him, asks Allah for what is due to him, and does not open the door to strife, for he is obligated to hear and obey in what is right. Patience and acceptance of the divine decree, both its good and its hardship.
