عن أبي يحْيَى أُسَيْدِ بْنِ حُضَيْرٍ رضي اللّهُ عنهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ قال: يا رسولَ اللّهِ أَلا تَسْتَعْمِلُني كَمَا اسْتَعْمَلتَ فُلانًا وفلانًا فَقَالَ: «إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدي أَثَرَةً فاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تلقَوْنِي علَى الْحوْضِ» متفقٌ عليه.
Abu Yahya Usayd ibn Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man from the Ansar said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me as you appointed so-and-so?' He said: "You will encounter selfishness after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Hawd (the Basin)." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

ألا تستعملني: ألا تجعلني عاملًا أي تُعَيِّنني واليًا أو مسؤولًا. الأَثَرَة: الانفرادُ بالشيْءِ عمَّنْ لَهُ فيهِ حقٌّ. الحوض: هو الحوض المورود الذي خُصَّ به نبيّنا محمد صلّى اللّه عليه وسلم في الجنّة.
Ala tasta'miluni: Will you not appoint me as a worker, meaning assign me as a governor or official? Al-Atharah: monopolizing something at the expense of those who have a right to it. Al-Hawd: the Basin granted exclusively to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Paradise.

معجزة النبي صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم في الإخبار عن ما سيقع في المستقبل. الأفضل عدم طلب الولاية إلا إذا كان أهلًا لها وليس من أحد ينافسه عليها. بُعد نظره صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم وعدم ترشيحه أحدًا لولايةٍ لا يكون كفؤًا لها. الصبر عند فسادِ الأمور وعدمِ تولية أصحاب الكفاءة.
The miracle of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in informing about what would happen in the future. It is preferable not to seek positions of authority unless one is qualified and there is no one else competing for it. The farsightedness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in not nominating anyone for a position for which they were not suited. Patience when affairs become corrupt and when competent people are not given positions of authority.
