عَنْ ابْن عبَّاس رضي اللَّه عنهما أَنَّ رَسُول اللّهِ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم كانَ يقُولُ: «اللَّهُم لَكَ أسْلَمْتُ وبِكَ آمنْتُ، وعليكَ توَكَّلْتُ، وإلَيكَ أنَبْتُ، وبِكَ خاصَمْتُ. اللَّهمَّ أعُوذُ بِعِزَّتِكَ، لا إلٰه إلّا أنْتَ أنْ تُضِلَّنِي أنْت الْحيُّ الَّذي لا يمُوتُ، وَالْجِنُّ وَالإِنْسُ يمُوتُونَ» .متفقٌ عَلَيهِ وَهَذا لَفْظُ مُسْلِمٍ
Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say: "O Allah, to You I have submitted, in You I have believed, upon You I have relied, to You I have turned in repentance, and by Your help I contend with adversaries. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your might -- there is no deity worthy of worship except You -- that You should lead me astray. You are the Ever-Living who never dies, while the jinn and mankind all die." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim), and this is the wording of Muslim.

اللّهمَّ لكَ أسلمْتُ: أي لك انقدت، واستسلمت، لحكمك وأمرك. وبكَ آمنت: التَّصديقُ والإقرارُ باللهِ تعالى وبكلِّ ما أمَرَ بهِ وما نَهى عنه. وعليكَ توكَّلتُ: أي فوّضت أموري كلّها إليك. وإليك أنبت: أقبلت بعباداتي وطاعتي لك، وأعرضت عما سواك. وبك خاصمت: أي بك أحاج وأدافع، وأقاتل أعداءك. اللهمَّ إنِّي أَعوذُ بعزَّتِكَ لا إلهَ إلَّا أَنتَ أنْ تُضلَّني: أي أعوذُ بارتِفاع قَدرِكَ على سائرِ المَخلوقاتِ، وتفرُّدِكَ بالأُلوهيَّةِ ألَّا تَجعَلَ لأحدٍ عليَّ سَبيلًا فيكونَ سببًا في ضَلالِي، وابتِعادِي عن الطَّريقِ المُستَقيمِ. أنتَ الحيُّ الذي لا يَموتُ: هذا تَنزيهٌ للّهِ عزَّ وجلَّ عن المَوتِ؛ لأنَّ الموتَ صِفَةُ نقْص. والجنُّ والإِنسُ يَموتونَ: تأكيدٌ منهُ صلَّى اللّهُ علَيهِ وسلَّمَ على أنَّ صفَةَ الحياةِ للّهِ عزَّ وجلَّ وحدَه، حتَّى إنَّ أرْقَى المَخلوقاتِ لازِمٌ في حقِّها الموتُ.
Allahumma laka aslamtu: meaning to You I have surrendered, submitted, and yielded to Your decree and command. Wa bika amantu: affirming belief and acknowledgment of Allah the Exalted and everything He has commanded and prohibited. Wa 'alayka tawakkaltu: meaning I have entrusted all my affairs to You. Wa ilayka anabtu: I have turned with my acts of worship and obedience to You, and turned away from all else. Wa bika khasamtu: meaning by Your help I argue, defend, and fight against Your enemies. Allahumma inni a'udhu bi 'izzatika la ilaha illa anta an tudillani: meaning I seek refuge in Your supreme authority over all creation and Your sole divinity, that You not allow anyone to have a way over me that would cause my misguidance and deviation from the straight path. Anta al-Hayy alladhi la yamut: this is an affirmation of Allah's transcendence beyond death, for death is an attribute of deficiency. Wal-jinnu wal-insu yamutun: a confirmation from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that the attribute of life belongs to Allah alone, and that even the noblest of creatures must inevitably face death.

المؤمن يأخذ بالأسباب ويتوكل على اللّه ويعتمد عليه سبحانه وتعالى. يجب على الإنسان أن يستسلم لأقدار اللّه المؤلمة، ويرضى بما قسمه اللّه عزّ وجلّ، فاللّه لا راد لقضائه، فإن صبر واستسلم فإنه يؤجر على هذا وترفع درجاته.
The believer takes the necessary means while relying on Allah and depending on Him, the Glorified and Exalted. A person must submit to Allah's painful decrees and be content with what Allah has apportioned for him, for there is no repelling Allah's decree. If one is patient and submissive, he will be rewarded for it and his rank will be elevated.
