عَنْ أبي هريرةَ رضي اللّهُ عنه أنَّ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «بادِرُوا بالأَعْمَالِ الصَّالِحَةِ، فسَتَكونُ فِتَنٌ كقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ، يُصبِحُ الرجُلُ مُؤمنًا ويُمْسِي كافرًا، ويُمْسِي مُؤْمنًا ويُصبحُ كافرًا، يَبيعُ دِينَه بعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا» رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Hasten to perform righteous deeds before tribulations come like patches of dark night, in which a man wakes up as a believer and by evening becomes a disbeliever, and he goes to sleep as a believer and wakes up as a disbeliever — selling his religion for a fleeting gain of this world." الشرح · explanation
بادروا بالأعمال: أي ائتوا بالعمل الصالح وابتَدروا وسارعوا إليه قبل ظهور العوائق والموانع منه. فتنًا: المقصود بها هنا موانع وذنوب ومحن ومصائب شديدة مظلمة تَحُول بين المرء وعمل الخير. يمسي كافرًا: المعنى يَحتمل الكفران بالنعم، لما يداخله من المعاصي المبعدة من ساحة الشكر، ويَحتمل الكفر الحقيقي. يبيع دينه: يترك دينه. بعرض: بمتاع وحطام من الدنيا، كأن يستحلَّ مال أخيه، أو يستحلَّ الربا والغش ونحو ذلك من المحرَّمات.
"Hasten to perform deeds": Rush to righteous deeds and race toward them before obstacles and impediments arise. "Tribulations" (fitan): Here it refers to obstacles, sins, and severe, dark afflictions that stand between a person and the performance of good. "Becomes a disbeliever by evening": This may refer to ingratitude toward blessings, due to the sins that distance one from gratitude, or it may refer to actual disbelief. "Sells his religion": Abandons his religion. "For a fleeting gain" (bi 'arad): For the transient goods and rubble of this world, such as unlawfully consuming the wealth of others, engaging in usury, fraud, and similar prohibited acts.

وجوب التمسك بالدين، والمبادرة إلى العمل الصالح قبل أن تحول الموانع والعوائق دونه. الإشارة إلى تتابع الفتن المضِلة أواخر الزمان، كلما انقضت فتنة أعقبتها فتنة أخرى. أنّ الفتن المضِلة والذنوب إذا تراكمت أفسدت القلب وأورثته القسوة والغفلة التي هي سبب الشقاء.
The obligation of holding fast to one's religion and hastening to perform righteous deeds before obstacles and impediments prevent one from doing so. An indication that misguiding tribulations will follow one another toward the end of times — whenever one tribulation ends, another follows. Misguiding tribulations and accumulated sins corrupt the heart and bring about the hardness and heedlessness that lead to wretchedness.
