حديث 104·الباب 11 · بابُ المجاهدَة.·رياض الصالحين · Riyad Al Salihin

عن أنسٍ رضي اللّهُ عنه، عن رسولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «يتْبعُ الميْتَ ثلاثَةٌ: أهلُهُ ومالُه وعمَلُه، فيرْجِع اثنانِ ويبْقَى واحِدٌ: يرجعُ أهلُهُ ومالُهُ، ويبقَى عملُهُ». متفقٌ عليه.

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) who said: "Three things follow the deceased: his family, his wealth, and his deeds. Two return and one remains — his family and wealth return, and his deeds remain." Agreed upon (narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

الحث على الإعداد للآخرة، بأن يجاهد المؤمن نفسه حتى تكون أعماله صالحة لتنفعه في قبره وفي الآخرة، والعمل الصالح هو الخالص للّهِ الموافق للشريعة. في الغالب الميْت يتبعه أهله: أبوه وإخوانه وغيرهم، وماله: الذي يستعان به على دفنه، وقيل المراد بالمال العبيد الأرقاء والخدم، فيرجع الأهل والمال، ويبقى عمله معه. سنّة اتباع الجنائز وتشييع الميت. تُدفَع نفقة تجهيز الميْت ودفنه من ثروته قبل توزيعها. حرمة دفن المال مع الميت.

Encouragement to prepare for the Hereafter by striving to ensure one's deeds are righteous so they benefit him in his grave and in the Hereafter. Righteous deeds are those done sincerely for Allah and in accordance with the Shari'ah. Typically, the deceased is followed by his family — his father, brothers, and others — and his wealth, which is used for his burial. Some say wealth here refers to servants and slaves. The family and wealth return, while his deeds remain with him. The Sunnah of following funeral processions and escorting the deceased. The expenses for preparing and burying the deceased are taken from his estate before it is distributed. It is forbidden to bury wealth with the deceased.
