عن ثَوْبانَ موْلى رسولِ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: سمِعْتُ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «عليكَ بِكَثْرةِ السُّجُودِ، فإِنَّك لَنْ تَسْجُد للّه سجْدةً إلَّا رفَعكَ اللّه بِهَا درجةً، وحطَّ عنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً» رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "You must perform many prostrations, for you will not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah will raise you one degree by it and remove one sin from you by it." Narrated by Muslim.

الحثّ على كثرة السجود، والترغيب فيه، والمراد به السجود في الصلاة، وفيه دليل لمن يقول تكثير السجود أفضل من إطالة القيام. على المسلم أن يحرص على الصلاة فرضًا وتطوعًا. تخصيص السجود برفع الدرجات وحطّ السيئات، دليل على أهميته في الصلاة، وعلى فضله، وشرفه، وعظيم ثوابه، وهو من أحبِّ الأعمال إلى اللّه.
Encouragement to perform many prostrations and motivation to do so; what is meant is prostration in prayer. This provides evidence for those who hold that increasing prostrations is better than prolonging the standing. A Muslim should be keen on performing prayer, both obligatory and voluntary. The specific mention of prostration as raising degrees and removing sins is evidence of its importance in prayer, its merit, its nobility, and its tremendous reward. It is among the most beloved deeds to Allah.
