عن أبي صَفْوانَ عبدِ اللّه بن بُسْرٍ الأسلَمِيِّ، رضي اللّه عنه، قال: قال رسولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «خَيْرُ النَّاسِ مَن طالَ عُمُره وَحَسُنَ عملُه» رواه الترمذي.
On the authority of Abu Safwan, 'Abdullah ibn Busr al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The best of people is the one whose life is long and whose deeds are good." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
الشرح · explanation
حَسُن عمله: بأن يأتي به مستوفيًا للشروط والأركان والآداب قاصدًا به وجه اللّه تعالى.
"Whose deeds are good" (hasuna 'amaluhu): By performing them fully, meeting all conditions, pillars, and etiquettes, and intending them solely for the sake of Allah the Most High.

The merit of a long life when accompanied by good deeds. A long life alone is not inherently good for a person unless he performs good deeds. The worst of people is one whose life is long and whose deeds are evil. A person's lifespan is an opportunity that the Muslim must utilize through increased acts of obedience and good deeds that bring him closer to Allah the Most High.
