عنْ أَبي هُرَيرةَ رضيَ اللّهُ عنه قال: قال رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُصِبْ مِنْهُ» رواه البخاري.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whomever Allah wills good for, He afflicts him." Narrated by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
يُصِب منه: أي يوجَّه إليه مصيبة، إما في بدنه أو ماله أو محبوبه.
"He afflicts him" (yusib minhu): meaning a trial is directed at him, whether in his body, his wealth, or his loved ones.

أن المؤمن معرّض للابتلاء، وإنّما كان ما يصيب منه خيرًا، حالًا؛ لما فيه من اللجوء إلى اللّه تعالى، ومآلًا؛ لما فيه من تكفير السيّئات. الابتلاء أمارة حبّ اللّه تعالى عبدَه حتّى يرفع درجته.
A believer is subject to trials, and what befalls him is ultimately good — in the present, because it drives him to turn to Allah the Most High, and in the outcome, because it expiates sins. Being tested is a sign of Allah the Most High's love for His servant, so that He may elevate his rank.
