عنْ أبي هريرة رضي اللّه عنه قالَ: قَال رسولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «منْ توضَّأ فأَحسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْجُمعةَ، فَاستَمَعَ وأَنْصتَ، غُفِر لَهُ ما بيْنَهُ وبيْنَ الْجُمعةِ وزِيادةُ ثَلاثَةِ أيَّامٍ، ومَنْ مسَّ الحَصا فَقد لَغَا» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution (wudu) and perfects it, then comes to the Friday prayer, listens attentively, and remains silent, his sins between that Friday and the next are forgiven, plus an additional three days. And whoever touches pebbles has engaged in idle distraction." Narrated by Muslim.

أحسَن الوُضوء: أتى به تامًّا بأركانِه وسُننِه وآدابِه. أتى الجُمُعة: أي أتى المسجد لصلاتها. فَاستَمَع: أي ألقى سمعه، يعني الإصغاء. وأنصَتَ: أي السكوت، وبمعنى أنه لم ينصرف بذهنه، فيكون عنده شرود عما يقوله الخطيب. لَغا: هو الكلام الباطل، وما لا فائدة فيه.
"Perfects the ablution" (ahsana al-wudu'): meaning he performs it completely with its pillars, recommended acts, and etiquettes. "Comes to the Friday prayer" (ata al-jumu'ah): meaning he comes to the mosque for its prayer. "Listens attentively" (istama'a): meaning he directs his hearing, i.e., pays close attention. "Remains silent" (ansata): meaning he keeps quiet, and also that he does not let his mind wander or become distracted from what the preacher is saying. "Idle distraction" (lagha): vain speech and that which has no benefit.

الحثّ على تحسين الوضوء وإتمامه، والمحافظة على صلاة الجمعة. فضل صلاة الجمعة، فهي تكفر ذنوب عشرة أيام. وجوب الاستماع والإنصات لخطبة الجمعة، وعدم التشاغل عنها. على الخطباء أن يُحسنوا عرض خُطبهم وموضوعاتها، وألّا تكون مجرّد كلمات عابرة لا تترك أثرًا في نفوس الناس، أو لا علاقة لها بواقع حياتهم.
The encouragement to perfect the ablution and complete it, and to be consistent in attending the Friday prayer. The virtue of the Friday prayer, as it expiates the sins of ten days. The obligation of listening attentively and remaining silent during the Friday sermon, and not being distracted from it. Preachers should present their sermons and topics well, and they should not be mere passing words that leave no impact on people's hearts, or that have no connection to the reality of their lives.
