عن أبي هريرة رضي اللّه عنه، أَنَّ امْرأَةً سَوْداءَ كَانَتَ تَقُمُّ المسْجِدَ -أَوْ شَابًّا- فَفقَدَهَا رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهَا أَوْ عنْهُ، فقالوا: مات. قال: «أَفَلا كُنْتُمْ آذَنْتُمُونِي» فَكَأَنَّهُمْ صَغَّرُوا أَمْرَهَا -أَوْ أَمْرَهُ- فقال: «دُلُّونِي عَلَى قَبْرِهِ» فدلُّوهُ فَصلَّى عَلَيها، ثُمَّ قال: «إِنَّ هذِهِ الْقُبُورَ مملُوءَةٌ ظُلْمةً عَلَى أَهْلِهَا، وإِنَّ اللّهَ تعالى يُنَوِّرُهَا لَهُمْ بصَلاتِي عَلَيْهِمْ» متفقٌ عليه.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A black woman — or young man — used to sweep the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) missed her (or him) and asked about her (or him). They said, "She (he) died." He said, "Why did you not inform me?" It seemed as though they had considered the matter small. He said, "Show me the grave." They showed him, and he prayed over it, then said, "These graves are full of darkness upon their inhabitants, and Allah illuminates them for them by my prayer over them." [Agreed upon]
الشرح · explanation
تَقُمُّ: أَي تَكنُسُ المسجد، وتلتقط الخرق والعيدان منه. آذَنْتُمونِي: أَعْلَمتُمُونِي. صغَّروا أمرها : هوَّنوا من شأنها، لأنّها ليست من مشاهير الصحابة. مملُوءَةٌ ظُلْمةً: لأنّها لا نورَ فيها إلّا بالأعمال الصالحة والشفاعات والدعوات.
"Taqummu": used to sweep the mosque and pick up rags and sticks from it. "Ādhantumūnī": informed me. "They considered the matter small": belittled her status, as she was not among the famous Companions. "Full of darkness": because there is no light in them except through righteous deeds, intercessions, and supplications.
