عن أبي هريرة رضي اللّهُ عنه قال: قال رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «رُبَّ أَشْعَثَ أغبرَ مدْفُوعٍ بالأَبْوَابِ لَوْ أَقْسمَ عَلَى اللّهِ لأَبرَّهُ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "How many a disheveled, dust-covered person, pushed away at doors, is such that if he were to swear by Allah, Allah would fulfill his oath." [Muslim]
الشرح · explanation
رُبَّ: كلمة المراد منها بيان كثرة وجود هذا النوع، وقد تستخدم في التقليل. أشعث: هو مَن تَشابَكَ شعره وساءَ مَنْظرُه. أغبر: يعلوه الغبار، والمراد رثُّ الهيئة والملبس. مدفوع بالأبواب: يطرده الناس إذا طرق أبوابهم لفقره ورَثاثته. لو أقسم على اللّه: لو حلف يمينًا محسنًا ظنّهُ باللّه على حصول أمر. لأبره: لأجابه، وأعطاه ما حلف عليه.
"Rubba": a word denoting abundance of this type, though sometimes used for scarcity. "Ashʿath": one whose hair is matted and whose appearance is shabby. "Aghbar": dust-laden; meaning shabby in dress and appearance. "Pushed away at doors": people drive him away when he knocks at their doors because of his poverty and worn state. "If he swears by Allah": if he takes an oath, having a good opinion of Allah, that a thing will come to pass. "Allah would fulfill his oath": would grant him what he swore to.

أن اللّه لا ينظر إلى مظهر العبد ولكن ينظر إلى القلوب والأعمال. على الإنسان أن يعتني بعمله وطهارة قلبه أكثر من عنايته بجسمه وملبسه . ميزان المرء بالأعمال لا بالمظاهر والأنساب والأموال.
Allah does not look at outward appearance but at hearts and deeds. A person should concern himself with his deeds and the purity of his heart more than with his body or attire. A person's measure is in his deeds, not in outward show, lineage, or wealth.
