عن سعد بن أَبي وَقَّاص رضي اللّه عنه قال: كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم سِتَّةَ نفَر، فقال المُشْرِكُونَ للنَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: اطْرُدْ هؤُلاءِ لا يَجْتَرِئُون علَيْنا، وكُنْتُ أَنا وابْنُ مسْعُودٍ ورجُل مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ وبِلال ورجُلانِ لَستُ أُسمِّيهِما، فَوقَعَ في نَفْسِ رسول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم ما شاءَ اللّهُ أَن يقعَ فحدَّثَ نفْسَهُ، فأَنْزَلَ اللّهُ تعالى: {ولا تَطْرُدِ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُون رَبَّهُمْ بالْغَداةِ والعَشِيِّ يُريدُونَ وجْهَهُ} [ الأنعام: ٥٢ ] رواه مسلم.
Saʿd ibn Abi Waqqaṣ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were six people with the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the polytheists said to him, "Drive these away so they do not presume over us." It was I, Ibn Masʿud, a man from Hudhayl, Bilal, and two others I will not name. Something crossed the Messenger of Allah's (peace be upon him) mind that Allah willed, and he thought within himself, so Allah the Exalted revealed: 'Do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening seeking His Face' [al-Anʿam: 52]. وقع في نفْس رسول اللّه صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم ما شاء اللّه أن يقع: أي حصل ميل لتنفيذ طلب المشركين بتأخير بعض أصحابه لحين الانتهاء من الكلام مع أئمة الشرك، طمعًا في إسلامهم وإسلام قومهم تبعًا لهم.
"Something crossed the Messenger's mind": meaning a slight inclination arose to meet the polytheists' request by temporarily setting aside some Companions until the discussion with the chiefs of shirk was complete, in the hope that they and their peoples would enter Islam as a result.

الفقراء والضعفاء كانوا أول من اعتنق الإسلام وصدق برسالة محمد صلّى اللّه عليه وسلم، وهم دائمًا أتباع الأنبياء. يجب احترام الصالحين واجتناب ما يغضبهم ويؤذيهم، وإنَّ في إيذائهم وإغضابهم غضب اللّه. يجب أن يكون احترام الناس وتقديرهم لدينهم وإيمانهم لا لمالهم وجاههم. المساواة في القيمة الإنسانية مبدأ إسلامي طُبِّق عمليًّا منذ الأيام الأولى من دعوة الإسلام. الإسلام دين اللّه تعالى لجميع الناس، ولا فضلَ لأحد على آخَر بمال أو جاه إلّا بالتقوى والعمل الصالح. اهتمامُ أهل الدنيا بالمظاهر وأنفتُهم واحتقارُهم للفقراء.
The poor and weak were the first to embrace Islam and believe in the message of Muhammad (peace be upon him); they have always been the followers of the prophets. The righteous must be honored; what angers or harms them must be avoided, for harming or angering them incurs the anger of Allah. Honoring people should be based on their religion and faith, not on their wealth or status. Equality in human dignity is an Islamic principle applied practically from the earliest days of the call to Islam. Islam is Allah's religion for all people; no one has superiority over another except through taqwa and righteous deeds. The preoccupation of worldly people with appearances, their pride, and their disdain for the poor.
