عن أبي هريرة رضي اللّه عنه، عن النبيّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «شَرُّ الطَّعَام طَعَامُ الْوليمةِ، يُمْنَعُها مَنْ يأْتِيهَا، ويُدْعَى إِلَيْهَا مَنْ يَأْبَاهَا، ومَنْ لَمْ يُجِبِ الدَّعْوةَ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللّهَ ورَسُولَهُ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said, "The worst of food is the food of the wedding feast to which the one who comes is turned away, and to which he who refuses to come is invited. Whoever does not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." [Muslim]

وفي رواية في الصحيحين عن أبي هريرةَ من قوله: «بِئْسَ الطَّعَامُ طَعَامُ الْوَلِيمَةِ يُدْعَى إِلَيْهَا الأَغْنِيَاءُ وَيُتْرَكُ الفُقَرَاءُ». شر الطعام: ذمّ للطعام الذي لا يُدعى إليه الفقراء ويُرَدّون إذا أََتَوْا، والمراد ذمّ من يفعل ذلك. طعام الوليمة: طعام العُرس، وهو مأمور به في الشريعة، لكن النهي عن تخصيصه بالأغنياء. من يأتيها: للحاجة من الفقراء والمساكين.
In a narration in the two Ṣaḥīḥs from Abu Hurayrah: "How evil is the food of a feast to which the wealthy are invited and the poor are excluded." "Worst of food": a censure of food to which the poor are not invited and are turned back if they come — meaning the censure is of those who do so. "Walīmah food": wedding food, which is commanded in the Shariah, but here the censure is of restricting it to the wealthy. "The one who comes": out of need — that is, the poor and needy.

إجابة الداعي إلى وليمة النكاح واجبة، بشرط أن لا يكون هناك منكرات كالخمور وآلات اللهو المحرّمة ونحوها. إخبار النبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم بما سيقع بعده من تخصيص الأغنياء بالدعوة في الولائم. مراعاة الفقراء والتلطّف بهم. النهي عن تعظيم الأغنياء لغناهم. من المظاهر التي ابتُلِيَ بها المسلمون في هذا العصر التباهي والتفاخر والإسراف في الولائم، ودعوة الأغنياء إليها، ومنعها عن الفقراء والمحتاجين.
Responding to the invitation to a wedding feast is obligatory, provided that there are no evils present such as alcohol, forbidden instruments of entertainment, and the like. The Prophet (peace be upon him) foretells what would occur after him — that the wealthy would be given exclusive invitation to feasts. Consideration for the poor and kindness to them. Forbidding the exaltation of the wealthy for their wealth. Among the afflictions that have befallen Muslims in this era is boastfulness, excess, and extravagance in feasts, inviting the wealthy and excluding the poor and needy.
