عن ابن عمَر رضي اللّه عنهما قال: سمعتُ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «كُلُّكُمْ راعٍ، وكُلُّكُمْ مسؤولٌ عنْ رعِيَّتِهِ، والأِمَامُ رَاعٍ، ومسؤولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ، والرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ في أَهْلِهِ ومسؤولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ، والمرْأَةُ راعِيةٌ في بيْتِ زَوْجِهَا ومسؤولَةٌ عنْ رعِيَّتِهَا، والخَادِمُ رَاعٍ في مالِ سيِّدِهِ ومسؤولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ، فكُلُّكُمْ راعٍ ومسؤولٌ عنْ رعِيَّتِهِ» متفقٌ عليه.
Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say, "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock; the man is a shepherd over his family and responsible for his flock; the woman is a shepherd over her husband's house and is responsible for her flock; the servant is a shepherd over his master's wealth and is responsible for his flock. So each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock." [Agreed upon]

المسؤولية في الإسلام دينية يحاسَب المرء على التقصير فيها يوم القيامة، كما أنّها دنيوية، فيحاسَب كل مقصّر على تقصيره أمام القضاء. عموم المسؤولية في الإسلام على كل فرد من أفراد الأمة مهما عظمت مهمته أو صغرت. رعاية الأب لأولاده وتوجيههم من أهم ما يجب أن يقوم به. مسؤولية المرأة في رعاية بيت الزوج بكل ما يحتاج إليه من إشراف وتربية وأمانة وعفّة.
Responsibility in Islam is a religious matter; a person is held accountable for negligence on the Day of Resurrection, and it is also a worldly matter, so every negligent person is held accountable for his negligence before the court. The generality of responsibility in Islam upon every member of the Ummah — however great or small his task. A father's care for his children and guidance of them is of the most important duties he must fulfill. The woman's responsibility to care for her husband's home — all that it requires of supervision, upbringing, trust, and chastity.
