Abu Shurayḥ al-Khuzāʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him do good to his neighbor. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say something good or remain silent." [Muslim, with this wording; Bukhari reported part of it]

The prohibition of harming the neighbor, for harming him is contrary to complete faith. Encouragement to honor the guest, which is the character of the Prophets and the righteous. A warning against indulging in false speech such as backbiting, slander, and the like. Encouragement to be silent when speech brings no benefit. Faith has effects and fruits that indicate it. Part of the reality of belief in the Last Day and complete sense of responsibility is maintaining good neighborliness, honoring the guest, and adhering to wholesome speech or silence.
