عن أبي هريرةَ رضي اللّهُ عنه، عن النبيّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «رَغِمَ أَنْفُ، ثُمَّ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ، ثُمَّ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ أَبَوَيْهِ عِنْدَ الْكِبَرِ، أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ كِلَيْهِمَا، فَلَمْ يَدْخُلِ الجَنَّةَ» رواه مسلم.
On the authority of Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: "May his nose be rubbed in the dust, then may his nose be rubbed in the dust, then may his nose be rubbed in the dust—he who finds his parents reaching old age, one or both of them, and yet does not enter Paradise." [Reported by Muslim.]

رغِم: لصق بالرغام وهو التراب، وهو دعاء عليه بالذل والفقر.
"Raghima" (rubbed in the dust): cleaved to the raghām, which is dust; an invocation against him of humiliation and poverty.

التحذير من التقصير بحقوق الوالدين، والحثّ على برّهما الذي يوجب فلاح المؤمن وفوزه بالجنّة. بر الوالدين واجب ولو في حال شبابهما، وإنما خصّ كبرهما بالذكر لمزيد التأكيد عليه؛ لأن حاجتهما إلى البرّ وقت كبرهما تكون أشد. عقوق الوالدين من الكبائر التي يستحق بها الإنسان الطرد من رحمة الله والعذاب في النار.
A warning against falling short in the rights of parents, and an exhortation to dutifulness toward them, which secures the believer's success and his entry into Paradise. Dutifulness to parents is obligatory even in their youth; old age is mentioned only by way of added emphasis, since their need for dutifulness in old age is most severe. Disobedience to parents (‘uqūq al-wālidayn) is among the major sins, by which a person becomes deserving of expulsion from Allah's mercy and punishment in the Fire.
