عن البَراءِ بنِ عازِبٍ رضي اللهُ عنهما، عن النبيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قالَ: «الخَالَةُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الأُمِّ» رواه الترمذي: وقال حديثٌ حسن صحيح.
Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The maternal aunt holds the status of the mother." [Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a good and authentic (hasan sahih) hadith]
الشرح · explanation
الخالة: أخت الأمّ. بمنزلة الأمّ: والمراد بمنزلتها أي في العطف على أولاد أختها وفي البرِّ بها والإحسان إليها.
The maternal aunt: the mother's sister. "Holds the status of the mother": what is meant is her standing in showing tenderness to her sister's children, in being dutiful to her, and in treating her kindly.
