عن ابن عمرَ رضي اللهُ عنهما أَن النبيّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «إِنَّ أَبَرَّ البِرِّ أَنْ يَصِلَ الرَّجُلُ وُدَّ أَبِيهِ» رواه مسلم.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The finest act of kindness is that a man maintains ties with those whom his father loved." [Reported by Muslim]

أبرّ البِرّ: أَكمل البِرّ وأبْلغه. وُدّ أبيه: من المودّة وهو الحُبّ.
The finest act of kindness: the most complete and consummate form of kindness. Those whom his father loved: from al-mawaddah, meaning love and affection.

فضلُ اللهِ تعالى ورحمتُه بعبادِه؛ فهو سبحانه لم يجعل بِرَّ الوالدَين متعلقًا بحياتهما فقط؛ والمسلم الفَطِن يجمع بين البرّ بهما أحياءً وأمواتًا. برّ الوالدين بعد موتهما يكون بصلة أصدقائهما.
Allah's grace and mercy toward His servants: He, the Exalted, did not confine dutifulness to one's parents to their lifetime alone; the discerning Muslim combines kindness to them both in their life and after their death. Dutifulness to parents after their death is shown by maintaining ties with their friends.
