عن عبدِ اللهِ بن دينارٍ عن عبدِ اللهِ بنِ عمرَ رضي اللهُ عنهما أَنَّ رجُلًا مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ لقِيَهُ بِطرِيقِ مكَّةَ، فَسلَّمَ عَليْهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمرَ، وحَمَلَهُ على حمارٍ كَانَ يرْكَبُهُ، وأَعْطَاهُ عِمامَةً كانتْ على رأْسِهِ، قال ابنُ دِينَارٍ: فقُلنا لهُ: أَصْلَحَكَ اللهُ، إِنَّهُمُ الأَعْرَابُ وهُمْ يَرْضَوْنَ بِاليَسِيرِ. فقال عبدُ اللهِ بنُ عمرَ: إِنَّ أبَا هذا كَان وُدًّا لِعُمَرَ بنِ الخطاب رضي اللهُ عنه، وإِنِّي سمِعْتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يقول: «إِنَّ أَبَرَّ البِرِّ صِلَةُ الرَّجُلِ أَهْلَ وُدِّ أَبِيهِ». * وفي روايةٍ عن ابنِ دينارٍ عن ابنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذا خرجَ إلى مَكَّةَ كَانَ لَهُ حِمارٌ يَتَرَوَّحُ عليْهِ إذا مَلَّ رُكُوبَ الرَّاحِلَةِ، وعِمامَةٌ يَشُدُّ بِها رأْسَهُ، فَبَيْنَا هُو يوْمًا على ذلِكَ الحِمَارِ، إذْ مَرَّ بِهِ أَعْرابِيٌّ، فقالَ: أَلَسْتَ فُلانَ بْنَ فُلانٍ؟ قالَ: بَلَى. فَأَعْطَاهُ الحِمَارَ، فقالَ: ارْكَبْ هذا، وأَعْطاهُ العِمامَةَ وقالَ: اشْدُدْ بِهَا رأْسَكَ، فقال لَهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحابِهِ: غَفَرَ اللّهُ لَكَ، أَعْطَيْتَ هذَا الأَعْرابِيَّ حِمارًا كنْتَ تَرَوَّحُ عليْهِ، وعِمامَةً كُنْتَ تَشُدُّ بِهَا رَأْسَكَ؟ فقالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يُقولُ: «إِنَّ مِنْ أَبَرِّ البِرِّ أَنْ يَصِلَ الرَّجُلُ أَهْلَ وُدِّ أَبِيهِ بَعْد أَنْ يُوَلِّيَ» وإِنَّ أَبَاهُ كَانَ صَدِيقًا لِعُمرَ رضي اللّهِ عنه. روى هذِهِ الرِّواياتِ كُلَّهَا مسلم.
Abdullah ibn Dinar reported, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them), that a Bedouin met him on the road to Makkah. Abdullah ibn Umar greeted him, mounted him upon a donkey that he himself had been riding, and gave him a turban that had been upon his own head. Ibn Dinar said: We said to him, "May Allah set your affairs right! These are only Bedouins, and they are content with little." Abdullah ibn Umar replied: "This man's father was beloved to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The finest act of kindness is that a man maintains ties with the loved ones of his father.'" * In another narration from Ibn Dinar, on the authority of Ibn Umar: When he set out for Makkah, he kept a donkey on which he would relax whenever he grew weary of riding his mount, and a turban with which he would bind his head. One day, while he was upon that donkey, a Bedouin passed by him, and he said, "Are you not so-and-so, the son of so-and-so?" The man replied, "Yes." So Ibn Umar gave him the donkey and said, "Ride this," and gave him the turban and said, "Bind your head with it." Some of his companions said to him, "May Allah forgive you! You have given this Bedouin a donkey on which you would relax and a turban with which you would bind your head?" He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Among the finest acts of kindness is that a man maintains ties with the loved ones of his father after he has passed away,' and indeed this man's father was a friend of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)." الأعراب: أهل البَدْوِ من العرب، الواحد أعرابيّ، وهو كل مَن سكن البادية. يتروّح: يستريح. ملَّ: سئم وضجر. الراحلة: البعير القويّ من الإبل. قولهم غفر الله لك: أدب العتاب؛ فقد قدّموا الدعاء، وهو مستفاد من قوله تعالى: عَفَا اللهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمْ [التوبة: ٤٣]. بعد أن يولّي: أي بعد أن يموت.
Bedouins (al-A'rab): the desert-dwellers among the Arabs; the singular is a'rabi, which is anyone who dwells in the desert. Would relax (yatarawwah): would take rest. Grew weary (malla): became bored and wearied. Mount (al-rahilah): a strong camel. Their saying "May Allah forgive you": this is the etiquette of reproach, for they prefaced it with a supplication, which is derived from the saying of Allah the Exalted: "May Allah pardon you! Why did you grant them leave?" [al-Tawbah: 43]. After he has passed away (ba'da an yuwalli): that is, after he has died.
