عن أَنسِ بنِ مالكٍ رضي اللهُ عنه قالَ: خَرجْتُ معَ جَريرِ بنِ عبدِ اللهِ الْبَجَليِّ رضي اللهُ عنه في سَفَرٍ، فَكَانَ يَخْدُمُني فقلتُ لَهُ: لا تَفْعَلْ، فقالَ: إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيـْتُ الأَنصارَ تَصْنَعُ برسُولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا آلَيْتُ عَلى نَفْسي أَنْ لا أَصْحبَ أَحدًا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا خَدَمْتُهُ. متفقٌ عليه
Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I set out with Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) on a journey, and he kept serving me. I said to him, "Do not do this." He replied, "I saw the Ansar do something for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so I swore an oath upon myself that I would never accompany any one of them without serving him." فكان يخدمني: كان جَرير بنِ عبد اللهِ يخدم أنسًا مع صغر سنّه عنه. آليت: أقسمت؛ من الأَلِيَّة: وهي اليمين.
He kept serving me: Jarir ibn Abdullah used to serve Anas even though Anas was younger in age than he was. I swore an oath (alaytu): I took an oath; from al-aliyyah, which means an oath.

Honoring whoever was good to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), even if he be younger in age. The merit of Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, his humility, his honoring of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his returning good to whoever did good to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The faithfulness of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) toward one another, especially toward those among them who served the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
