عن أَنسٍ رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «ما أَكْرَمَ شَابٌّ شَيْخًا لِسِنِّهِ إِلَّا قَيَّضَ اللهُ لَهُ مَنْ يُكْرِمُهُ عِنْدَ سِنِّهِ». رواه الترمذي وقال حديث غريب.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No young man honours an old man on account of his age but that Allah appoints for him someone to honour him when he reaches that age." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a strange (gharib) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
شيخًا: في سنِّ الشيخوخة. إلا قيَّض: أي هَيَّأ وقدَّر.
"An old man": one in the age of old age. "But that Allah appoints": that is, prepares and decrees.

The recommendation of assisting the weak among the elderly. In it is an indication of a promise to whoever honours an old man on account of his age, that his own life will be prolonged until he reaches that age and Allah will appoint for him someone to attend to his honour. The recompense is of the same kind as the deed, and Allah does not let the reward of one who does good be lost. Noble and praiseworthy character is part of the religion, and the religion is not complete without it.
