عنْ أبي سعيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ رضيَ اللهُ عنه، عن النبيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قال: «لا تُصَاحبْ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنًا، ولا يَأْكُلْ طعَامَكَ إِلَّا تَقِيٌّ» رواه أبو داود، والترمذيّ بإِسْنَادٍ لا بأْس بِهِ وقال حديث حسن.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not keep company with any but a believer, and let none but a God-fearing person eat your food." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi with an acceptable chain of narration, and al-Tirmidhi said it is a sound (hasan) hadith.

النهي عن مصاحبة الكفَّار والمنافقين ومودتهم، لأن مصاحبتهم مضرَّة في الدِّين. الأمر بملازمة الأتقياء ومخالطتهم. ليس المراد حرمان غير التقيّ من الإحسان وإسداء الجميل إليه، بل المراد ألا يُخالطه، فالمصطفى صلّى الله عليه وسلّم أطعم المشركين. صحبة الأخيار تورث الخير، وصحبة الأشرار تورث الشرّ.
The prohibition of keeping company with disbelievers and hypocrites and of holding affection for them, because their companionship is harmful to one's religion. The command to remain attached to the God-fearing and to mix with them. The intent is not to deny the one who is not God-fearing kindness and good treatment; rather, the intent is that one should not take him as an intimate companion, for the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) fed the polytheists. Keeping company with the good begets good, and keeping company with the wicked begets evil.
