أن دخول الجنّة لا يكون إلا بالإيمان، وأن الإيمان لا يكمل إلا أن يحب المسلم لأخيه ما يحب لنفسه. أن السلام من أول أسباب التآلف، وأنه مفتاحٌ لاستجلاب المودة، وفي إفشائه تتمكن ألفة المسلمين، وفي بذله إظهار شعارهم المميز لهم من غيرهم من أهل الملل، وإلقاء السلام سنة، ورده فرض، وصيغته المشروعة: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته، ولا ينوب عنها صيغة أخرى من صيغ التحية، كصباح الخير وغيرها. لا يقتصر الإيمان على مجرد التصديق القلبي المجرد عن العمل الصالح، كما أفاد قوله عليه الصلاة والسلام " ولا تؤمنوا حتى تحابوا ".

Entry into Paradise comes only through faith, and faith is not complete until a Muslim loves for his brother what he loves for himself. The greeting of peace is among the first means of mutual affection and a key to drawing love. Through spreading it the bond among Muslims is strengthened, and in offering it lies the manifestation of the distinctive symbol that sets them apart from the followers of other religions. Offering the greeting is a recommended act (sunnah), while returning it is obligatory. Its prescribed form is: "Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings" (al-salamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allah wa barakatuh), and no other form of greeting, such as "good morning" and the like, can take its place. Faith is not limited to mere assent of the heart devoid of righteous deeds, as is indicated by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): "and you will not believe until you love one another."
