عن أبي إِدريسٍ الخَولانيِّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ قال: دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ، فَإِذَا فتًى بَرَّاقُ الثَّنَايَا وَإِذَا النَّاسُ مَعهُ، فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفُوا في شَيءٍ، أَسْنَدُوهُ إِلَيْهِ، وَصَدَرُوا عَنْ رَأْيِهِ، فَسَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ، فَقِيلَ: هَذَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ رضيَ اللهُ عنه ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ، هَجَّرْتُ، فَوَجَدْتُهُ قَدْ سَبَقَنِي بِالتَّهْجِيرِ، ووَجَدْتُهُ يُصَلِّي، فَانْتَظَرْتُهُ حَتَّى قَضَى صلاتَهُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ وجْهِهِ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ: وَاللهِ؛ إِنِّي لأُحِبُّكَ للهِ ، فَقَالَ: آللهِ؟ فَقُلْتُ: ألله، فقال: آللهِ؟ فَقُلْتُ: أللهِ، فَأَخَذَنِي بِحَبْوَةِ رِدَائي، فَجَبذَني إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: أَبْشِرْ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «قالَ اللهُ تعالى: وَجَبَتْ مَـحبتي للمتحابين فيَّ،والمتجالسين فيَّ،والمتزاورين فيَّ،والمتباذلين فيَّ».حديث صحيح رواه مالك في الموطّأ بإسناده الصحيح
Abu Idris al-Khawlani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I entered the mosque of Damascus, and there was a young man with gleaming teeth, with people gathered around him. Whenever they differed about something, they would refer it to him and adopt his opinion. I asked about him, and it was said: This is Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). The next day, I went early to the mosque, but I found that he had preceded me in coming early, and I found him praying. So I waited for him until he finished his prayer, then I came to him from in front of him, greeted him, and then said: By Allah, I truly love you for the sake of Allah. He said: For the sake of Allah? I said: For the sake of Allah. He said: For the sake of Allah? I said: For the sake of Allah. So he took hold of the upper part of my cloak, drew me toward him, and said: Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah, the Exalted, said: 'My love is assured for those who love one another for My sake, who sit together for My sake, who visit one another for My sake, and who give to one another generously for My sake.'" الشرح · explanation
براق الثنايا: مضيء الأسنان، حسن الثغر، كثير الابتسام. أسندوه إليه: سألوه عنه وأرجعوا إليه الفصل فيه. صدروا عن رأيه: رجعوا عما اختلفوا فيه وأخذوا برأيه. التهجير: التبكير إلى الصلاة. حبوة ردائي: الحبوة من الاحتباء، وهو أن يجمع بين ظهره وساقيه بعمامة ونحوها، والمراد أخذ بردائي من عند سرتي. أبشر: البشارة الخبر السار وتستعمل في الشر تهكمًا. المتباذلين: من البذل، وهو العطاء، أي: المتعاونين والمنفقين من أجلي.
"With gleaming teeth" (barraq al-thanaya): radiant of teeth, fine of mouth, frequently smiling. "They would refer it to him" (asnaduhu ilayhi): they would ask him about it and leave the settling of it to him. "Adopt his opinion" (sadaru an ra'yihi): they would turn back from what they differed about and take his opinion. "Going early" (al-tahjir): hastening early to the prayer. "The upper part of my cloak" (habwat rida'i): habwah is from ihtiba, which is to gather one's back and shins together with a turban or the like; what is meant is that he took hold of my cloak at the level of my navel. "Rejoice" (abshir): bisharah is glad tidings, and it is also used for evil tidings by way of irony. "Who give to one another generously" (al-mutabadhilin): from badhl, which is giving; that is, those who cooperate and spend for My sake.

يستحب إخبار المسلم من يحب بمحبته. أنّ من كان في عبادة أو خلوة بربّه فمن الأدب ألا يُشغل عما هو فيه حتى يفرغ من عبادته. أنَّ من الأدب أن يأتي الإنسان لمن يخاطبه من جهة وجهه كي لا يُفزعه.
It is recommended for a Muslim to inform the one he loves of his love for him. Whoever is engaged in worship or in private devotion with his Lord should not, out of good manners, be distracted from what he is engaged in until he finishes his worship. It is part of good manners that a person approach the one he wishes to address from in front of him so as not to startle him.
