عن ابنِ مسعودٍ رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يُؤْتَى بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَهَا سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ زِمَامٍ، مَعَ كُلِّ زِمَامٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ يَجُرُّونَهَا» رواه مسلم.
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hell will be brought forth on that Day with seventy thousand reins, and with each rein will be seventy thousand angels dragging it." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
يومئذ: المراد يوم القيامة. الزمام: ما يجعل في أنف البعير يُشد عليه المِقْوَد وقيل الحبل.
"On that Day": what is meant is the Day of Resurrection. "The rein": that which is placed in the nose of a camel to which the lead-rope is fastened; and it is said it is the rope.

هذا الحديث من أمور الغيب، والتصديق بها علامة المؤمن، فيجب الإيمان بها كما وردت، وليس للعقل فيها مجال. الحديث فيه تخويفٌ عظيم من النّار فكثرة أزمّتها مع كِبَر حجمها يدلّ على شدّة النّار و عِظَمِ حجمها وخطرها. الخوف من الله تعالى بذكر شأن النّار التي هي عذاب الله يُعذب بها الكفّار خالدين فيها والعصاة إلى ما شاء الله، ممّا يحمل المؤمن على الاجتهاد في الطاعة وترك المعصية ابتعادًا عن هذه النّار.
This hadith is among the matters of the unseen, and believing in them is a sign of the believer, so they must be believed in as they have come, and there is no scope for the intellect in them. The hadith contains an immense warning against the Fire, for the multitude of its reins together with its enormous size indicates the severity of the Fire and the immensity of its size and danger. Fear of Allah Most High by mentioning the matter of the Fire, which is the punishment of Allah by which the disbelievers are punished, abiding therein forever, and the sinners until Allah wills, is something that drives the believer to strive in obedience and abandon disobedience, distancing himself from this Fire.
