Riyad Al Salihin

'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Some captives were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there was a woman among the captives running about; when she found an infant among the captives, she took it, pressed it to her belly, and nursed it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you think this woman would cast her child into the fire?" We said: "No, by Allah." He said: "Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child." Agreed upon.
