عن أبي أَيُّوبَ خَالِدِ بنِ زيدٍ، رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: سمعتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «لَوْلا أَنَّكُمْ تُذنِبُونَ، لخَلَقَ اللهُ خَلقًا يُذنِبونَ، فَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ، فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Ayyub Khalid ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Were it not that you sin, Allah would create a creation that sins, then seeks forgiveness, and He would forgive them." Reported by Muslim.

سعة الرجاء في مغفرة الله تعالى، فلو قُدِّر عدم وجود عاص -وهذا غير حاصل- لخلق الله من يعصيه فيغفر له، ليظهر عفوه وفضله. ليس في الحديث تحريض على فعل المعصية، ولكن فيه تبشيرٌ بالمغفرة وإزالة لشدة الخوف واليأس من نفوس التائبين، وبيان أن البشر فيهم طبع الميل إلى المعصية وليسوا كالملائكة الكرام، فكان في ذلك طمأنينة ورجاء لعفو الله ومغفرته.
The vastness of hope in the forgiveness of Allah the Exalted; for were it supposed that no sinner existed—and this does not actually occur—Allah would create those who disobey Him so that He might forgive them, that His pardon and bounty might be made manifest. There is no incitement in the hadith to commit sin; rather it contains glad tidings of forgiveness, a removal of intense fear and despair from the souls of those who repent, and a clarification that human beings have an innate inclination toward disobedience and are not like the noble angels—so in this there is reassurance and hope for Allah's pardon and forgiveness.
