عن أبي موسى الأَشْعَرِي، رضي اللهُ عنه، قال: قالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيامَةِ دَفَعَ اللهُ إِلى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يَهُوديًّا أو نَصْرَانِيًّا فَيَقُولُ: هَذَا فَكَاكُكَ مِنَ النَّارِ». وفي روايةٍ عنهُ رضي اللهُ عنه، عن النبيِّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ نَاسٌ مِنَ المُسْلِمِين بِذُنُوبٍ أَمْثَالِ الجبَالِ يَغفِرُهَا اللهُ لهمُ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will hand to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say, 'This is your ransom from the Fire.'" In another narration from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said, "On the Day of Resurrection some people of the Muslims will come with sins like mountains, and Allah will forgive them." Narrated by Muslim.

قوله: «دَفَعَ إِلى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يهودِيًّا أَوْ نَصرانِيًّا فَيَقُولُ: هَذا فكَاكُكَ مِنَ النَّارِ» معْنَاهُ: مَا جَاءَ في حديث أبي هريرة رضي اللهُ عنهُ: «لِكُلِّ أَحَدٍ مَنزِلٌ في الجَنَّةِ، ومَنزِلٌ في النَّارِ، فالمُؤْمِنُ إِذَا دَخَلَ الجنَّةَ خَلَفَهُ الكَافِرُ في النَّارِ، لأَنَّهُ مُسْتَحِقٌّ لذلكَ بكُفْرِه». فكاك: الخَلاص والفداء، أي أَنَّكَ كُنْتَ مُعَرَّضًا لِدُخُولِ النَّارِ وَهَذا خلاصك منها وفداؤك.
His saying, "He will hand to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say, 'This is your ransom from the Fire,'" means what came in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Every person has a place in Paradise and a place in the Fire; so when the believer enters Paradise, the disbeliever takes his place in the Fire, because he deserves that on account of his disbelief." "ransom": deliverance and redemption — meaning, you were exposed to entering the Fire, and this is your deliverance from it and your redemption.

عظيم فضل الله ورحمته الخاصّة بمن أطاعه واتّبع دين الإسلام. أَنَّ الله تعالى قَدَّرَ لِلنَّارِ عدَدًا يَمْلَؤُهَا، فإِذا دَخَلَهَا الكُفَّارُ بِذُنُوبِهمْ وَكُفْرِهِمْ صَارُوا في مَعنى الفَكَاك لِلمُسلِمِينَ، والله أَعلم. على المسلم الحرص ألا يفوته مقعده في الجنّة، وأن يخاف من دخول النّار، وذلك بالتزامه بشرع الله تعالى حتى يأتيه أجله. الترغيب بالإيمان والترهيب من الكفر وبيان عاقبة الكفار.
The immense bounty of Allah and His special mercy toward those who obey Him and follow the religion of Islam. Allah, the Exalted, has decreed a number for the Fire that will fill it, so when the disbelievers enter it on account of their sins and disbelief, they come to serve in effect as a ransom for the Muslims — and Allah knows best. The Muslim should be eager not to lose his place in Paradise, and should fear entering the Fire, by adhering to the law of Allah, the Exalted, until his appointed time comes to him. Encouragement toward faith and warning against disbelief, with a demonstration of the end of the disbelievers.
