Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "The believer will be brought near to his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, on the Day of Resurrection until He places His cover over him. Then He will make him acknowledge his sins, saying, 'Do you recognize such-and-such a sin? Do you recognize such-and-such a sin?' He will say, 'My Lord, I recognize it.' He will say, 'I concealed them for you in this world, and today I forgive them for you.' Then he will be given the record of his good deeds." Agreed upon.

The bounty of Allah, the Exalted, and His mercy toward His servants, in that He conceals, is forbearing, and forgives. For the Muslim to preserve Allah's concealment of him so that it continues until the Day of Resurrection, he must do the following: Sincere repentance and returning to Allah. Concealing the faults of people and not seeking out their shortcomings. Abandoning the open flaunting of sins, and instead hastening to repentance. Acknowledgment erases the offense. Encouragement to conceal the faults of the believer as much as possible. Al-kanaf (the cover) is an attribute firmly established for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, by the authentic hadith. Allah forgives sins and disobedience apart from associating partners with Him.
