ليس بين الإنسان والجنة والنار إلا أن يموت على فعلِ ما يستوجب أحدهما. الحديث يتضمن ترغيبًا وترهيبًا، فينبغي للمؤمن ألا يُقصّر في طاعةٍ ولا يتهاون في معصية. ينبغي للمرء ألا يزهد في قليلٍ من الخيرِ أن يأتيه ولا في قليلٍ من الشر أن يجتنبه٬ فإنه لا يعلم الحسنة التي يرحمه الله بها ولا السيئة التي يسخط عليه بها. الأصل فيما أراد الله من الكرامةِ للإنسان أن يسكن الجنة، ولكن بالعصيان يَخرج منها، فمن أطاع الله في الدنيا عاد إلى منزله الأصيل وهو الجنة، ومن عصى الله رُدَّ إلى النار. طريق الجنـة يســير؛ توبة مما مضــى، وعمــل صالح، وترك للمعاصي فيما بقي. مخالفة الهوى طريق إلى الجنة، وموافقة الهوى في المعاصي يفضي إلى النار.

There is nothing between a person and Paradise or the Fire except that he die upon a deed that necessitates one of them. The hadith contains both encouragement and warning, so the believer ought not to fall short in any act of obedience nor be negligent regarding any act of disobedience. A person ought not to disdain a small amount of good that comes to him, nor a small amount of evil that he avoids, for he does not know which good deed Allah will have mercy on him through, nor which evil deed He will be angered at him through. The original intent of Allah's honoring of mankind is that he dwell in Paradise; but through disobedience he is expelled from it. So whoever obeys Allah in this world returns to his original abode, which is Paradise, and whoever disobeys Allah is sent back to the Fire. The path to Paradise is easy: repentance for what has passed, righteous deeds, and abandoning acts of disobedience in what remains. Opposing one's desires is a path to Paradise, while following one's desires into acts of disobedience leads to the Fire.
