Abd Allah ibn al-Shikhkhir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was praying, and from his chest there came a sound like the bubbling of a cauldron, on account of his weeping. A sound hadith reported by Abu Dawud, and by al-Tirmidhi in al-Shama'il with a sound chain of narration.

A demonstration of the perfect fear of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) possessed, and of his humility before Him despite his lofty rank; and an encouragement to follow his example (peace and blessings be upon him). Weeping out of humility during the prayer does not invalidate it.
