عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْريِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: جَلَسَ رسولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم عَلى المِنْبَرِ، وَجَلسْنَا حَوْلَهُ فقال: «إِنَّ مِمَّا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُم من بَعْدِي مَا يُفْتَحُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ زَهْرَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتِهَا» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat upon the pulpit and we sat around him, and he said: "Among the things I fear for you after me is the worldly splendour and adornment that will be opened up to you." Agreed upon.

من بعدي: أي بعد موتي. زهرة الدنيا: زينتها وبهجتها.
After me: that is, after my death. The splendour of the world: its adornment and its delight.

خشية النبي صلّى الله عليه وسلّم على أمته من تعلق قلوبهم بحب الدنيا وزخارفها، وانشغال أبصارهم وجميع حواسهم بها، مما يشغلهم عن الآخرة ويفسد عليهم دينهم، وقد وقع ما خافه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. للعالِم أن يحذّر مَن يجالسه مِن فتنة المال، وينبّههم على مواضع الخوف عليهم.
The Prophet's fear (peace and blessings be upon him) for his community that their hearts would become attached to the love of the world and its adornments, and that their eyes and all their senses would be preoccupied with it, which would divert them from the Hereafter and corrupt their religion for them; and what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) feared has indeed come to pass. It is for the scholar to warn those who sit with him against the trial of wealth and to alert them to the places of danger for them.
