عن أنسٍ رضي الله عنه، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «يَتْبَعُ المَيِّتَ ثَلاثَةٌ: أَهْلُهُ وَمَالُهُ وَعَمَلُهُ، فَيَرْجِعُ اثْنَانِ، وَيَبْقَى وَاحدٌ: يَرْجِعُ أَهْلُهُ وَمَالُهُ، وَيَبْقَى عَمَلُهُ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Three things follow the deceased [to his grave]: his family, his wealth, and his deeds. Two of them return and one remains: his family and his wealth return, and his deeds remain." [Agreed upon]

أن ما يبقى مع الميت بعد دفنه إنما هو عمله، فيكون مرتهنًا به. ما يقدمه الإنسان من عمل صالح خير له مما يخلفه وراءه من مال وولد.
What remains with the deceased after his burial is only his deeds, by which he is held in pledge. The righteous deeds a person sends ahead are better for him than the wealth and offspring he leaves behind.
