Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through the marketplace with people on both his sides. He passed by a dead kid goat with small ears, took hold of it by its ear, and said: "Which of you would like to have this for a dirham?" They said: 'We would not want it for anything at all; what would we do with it?' He said: "Would you like to have it [even for free]?" They said: 'By Allah, even if it were alive it would be defective, for it has small ears; so how about now that it is dead?' He said: "By Allah, this world is more contemptible to Allah than this [dead goat] is to you." [Reported by Muslim]

This world is more lowly and worthless to Allah than this dead goat is to people, so how can they busy themselves with it away from Allah when this is its condition and this is its reality? The Muslim must regard this world as insignificant in his eyes, so that he does not carry its worries nor become more eager for it than for the Hereafter. The Prophet's keenness to seize opportunities and occasions to direct and guide his Ummah.
